Geiranger Fjordsenter is an interactive knowledge and adventure center focusing on Norwegian fjord culture and the Geirangerfjorden World Heritage. The center provides insight in the fjord culture, especially life as was on the many abandoned mountain farms along Storfjord.
You may experience a unique and informative history of a robust people living in a spectacular environment. Today's technology is used to convey information about avalanches, power development, flora and fauna, road construction, tourism and transport as well as daily life and nature.
The multi-media show "Frå fjell til fjord" ("From Mountains to Fjord") shows this World Heritage Site throughout the four seasons. It features a collection of magnificent images of the landscape, from the high mountains to the fjord, accompanied by a specially-composed musical soundtrack. It is a great way to learn about the history, culture and nature of the area.
The Norwegian Fjord Center is also an art gallery where well known Norwegian contemporary artists present their work. There is a small, nice café with a selection of dishes based on local cuisine. The souvenir shop sells Norwegian arts and crafts, the World Heritage Art Folder, promotional items, and a wide range of postcards and books about Geiranger and the Geiranger Fjord.
